Sally Rand From Film to Fans

When I first discovered Sally Rand, I fell in love with the idea of her fans and the bird wings movements she incorporated in her fan dance. One set of her fans rests at the Exotic World Burlesque Museum. Dixie Evans, the museum curator, has many pictures and articles of Sally during her career. Sally and Dixie were friends. To honor Sally and her fan dancing I have continued the legacy of making the huge fans that she once used. So far the largest fans I have made for a performer are 6 feet wide and 5 feet tall. They are heavy, but beautiful.

Sally began her feather fan dancing career in the 1930's. She continued her same routine of fan dancing for more than 50 years. She appeared in movies, DeMille's King of Kings and Fighting Eagles. She acted in a movie named Bolero where she has a two minute fan dance. Sally appeared in many silent movies and also did stunt work, under Paramount.
